2008 Golden Goggle Awards

Michael Phelps and Natalie Coughlin were named the respective Male and Female Athletes of the Year at last night's Golden Goggle Awards. The event, held in New York City, were hosted by NBC's Bob Costas.

Phelps also won the Male Performance of the Year (100 Fly win in Beijing) and the Relay Performance of the Year (400 Free Relay, come-from-behind win). Jason Lezak swam the anchor leg of that amazing race.

Eric Shanteau won the Perseverance Award for pushing through after his cancer diagnosis. The Breakout Performer of the Year Award and Female Performance of the Year awards went to Rebecca Soni, who shattered the 200 Breast World Record in a thrilling race with former record-holder Leisel Jones.

Once again, Bob Bowman was honored as Coach of the Year. The Athlete Humanitarian Award went to Cullen Jones for his efforts to promote diversity in the sport. (Click here to learn more about his efforts)

Swim Stars Named Olympic Team Captains

Five out of the 6 Team USA Olympic Team captains are Swim Stars.

USA Swimming officially released their names even though news of some of the selections were made known shortly after the vote happened at training camp.

Amanda Beard and Natalie Coughlin join Dara Torres to lead the women.

For the men, Brendan Hansen, Erik Vendt, and Jason Lezak were voted captains.
